Broad Street- Crossroads Initiative, Downtown

The bend in Broad Street traces the boundaries of colonial Boston’s Town Cove connecting State Street and the historic corridor connecting Long Wharf, the Customs House and the Old State House. This important Crossroads widened tree-lined sidewalks will better connect well-traveled State Street, Faneuil Hall Marketplace and Government Center to the new Rose Kennedy Greenway at the harbor’s edge. The project, now in construction, includes widened sidewalks, allowing for many restaurants to expand to outdoor cafes. New street lighting and improved handicapped accessibility along this historic street will modernize this main street in the growing and much-improved Wharf District. The project also includes a unique passive irrigation system for the landscaping, structural soil, and custom-designed seating areas and benches.
